Truth is no longer distorted through the filter of the disturbances of our past or the biases of our family and culture. Truth is revealed, clear as a bell, at least for a moment.<br /><br /><br />But sustaining this recovered state is a difficult task. To do so, we must do some work. I’m not suggesting tedious hours of repetitive prayers or dissociative mediation. Recovery is simpler—but much harder.<br /><br />Our task is to resolve the traumas buried in our unconscious, the traumas that imprison truth and entangle our life force and creativity. The disturbing wounds inflicted on us beginning in earliest childhood, even in the womb of a troubled mother in conflict with a father, are absorbed by the child and must be resolved so that we may live fully and honestly. We must see, feel, and grieve our traumatic history in order to clear the minds holding bin, the unconscious. Or that we are going to be judged, ridiculed or made fun of.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Perhaps we bought into a story that one of our parents, friends, teachers or family members told us. Something like, "You'll never be good at this or that." And so we shut down, and in that moment we think that they are putting us in our place, but really we are putting ourselves there by agreeing with them.<br /><br /> <br /><br />When we show our child within, WILL shake things up.<br /><br /> <br /><br />Some will applaud us. Others will shun us. The truth about life is that we either grow together or we grow apart. And since we are constantly growing if we are on the Path to Recovery, that means that some people are in our lives for a season, or a reason or a lifetime. Celebrate those that you can journey with; they will be there for your whole life. And don't be afraid to let go of those folks who aren't growing with you, sometimes it's best to Love certain people from afar. And that's okay too.<br /><br /> <br /><br />The thing that we want to keep our minds set on is expressing our child within. This takes study. This WILL rock the boat, and this is probably the most important decision we could ever make in our lives. Because everything else revolves around how we see ourselves and then, as a result, how others see us.<br /><br /> <br /><br />If you aren't seeing your ideal life manifesting around you, ask yourself, "What do I REALLY believe about me and what’s possible in my life?" Abuse is lack of respect. Now that you’re getting in touch with your child within, you need to respond to them differently. Here’s what we mean:<br />Sit down and listen. Listening to others is only one of many ingredients that will help you reach your goals. Yes, there’s a time for us to sit down and listen but there’s also a time for us to stand up and speak. A time for us to follow instructions; a time for us to follow our intuitive voice. A time for us to listen to the voices of others; a time for us to listen to our own intuitive voice.We have to start to discern the language of the child within and our own harsh parental voice of control and abuse.<br /><br /><br />Pay attention to the rules. As an adult, there are still some rules that are super important to pay attention to. Stop at stop signs. Pay your income taxes. Don’t text and drive. Yet, many other rules are at your discretion. Color outside the lines. (Be the next Pollack.) Keep a messy desk. (Einstein did.) Do your homework whenever the muse hits you. If you are still being a good little kid and paying attention to all the rules, don’t be surprised if instead of getting a gold star, you get no appreciation or recognition.<br />That’s dangerous! Don’t do it! You don’t need to court danger just for the fun of it. Or maybe you do. Isn’t that what’s exciting about skiing, racing, and a host of other sports activities?<br /><br />Don’t you want to take risks in your career? Or in other pursuits? Isn’t there a time to muster up your courage and enter the dark woods to explore new territory? Play it too safe and you’ll likely become buggy about how boring, tedious and tiresome your life is.<div> <br />Slow down! Be quiet! Kids have an abundance of energy that adults can’t always deal with. Hence, kids are often bawled out when their exuberance becomes noisy, nerve-racking or ear-shattering. Though adults don’t have the energy of kids, if you’re always on the go, others may suggest (or demand) that you stop and slow down. Is this good advice? Maybe, if you’re neurotically driven to always be doing something. But it could be that you’re just a high-energy person who likes to be involved in many things. If so, go for it. And when your favourite scold tells you to “slow down,” you can always respond with “chill out.”<div> <br />Stop whining. Most kids have upgraded whining to an art form. Because nothing is as annoying as persistent whining, all but the most stoic of parents give in to their kids just to shut them up. Now that you’re an adult, should whining be totally off base?
